We're only halfway through July and we feel confident saying that these astronauts & gun memes will be the meme of the month. It was making some serious strides on Reddit and Instagram when we covered the meme just two weeks ago. But now it's truly gotten out of control. The examples range from self-aware and meta to absolutely ridiculously dumb. The versatility makes for some seriously good scrolling, and that's exactly what we're here to provide you with today.
When we covered the St. Louis "gun couple" (also known as Ken and Karen) we weren't sure if they'd be able to compete with the Shredded Cheese Sad Wife. But it turns out that waving dangerous weapons on a palatial estate gives a meme some longevity. In the wake of their viral moment, the couple (Mark and Patricia McCloskey) have made a statement explaining that they support Black Lives Matter, and that the aggressors they were afraid of were white. Their claims have done nothing to stop memers from photoshopping the personal injury lawyers into images from popular games and making parodies of movie posters. And we're definitely not complaining.
"Assassination Chain" is a brand new dank meme inspired by a scene in the TV show Person of Interest where four characters hold each other at gunpoint. The scene isn't supposed to be a comedic one, but its absurdity makes it the perfect specimen for a fresh and dank object-label meme!
We've already recently covered this topic, but honestly the memes have been so good that we felt like we had to bring you even more of them.
We certainly don't want to get too deep into the politics of exactly what causes gun violence in America in light of recent tragedies, but one thing seems to be certain here: both gamers and non-gamers alike on both sides of the political spectrum are coming together to reject the idea that video games are what cause it.
So here are 17 brand new, freshly baked memes that roast the (lack of) logic that video games are the violent culprit!
Pigeons don't get much in the way of respect. Frequently referred to as "rats with wings," they're pretty low on the animal totem pole. That doesn't mean they deserve to be surrounded by GUNS as this poor guy is in this trending meme format. The template is being used to describe classic moments when we're threatened or overwhelmed, and the memes are getting to be a little too relatable for our liking.
We never thought that one of our new favorite meme would be Saving Private Ryan related, but here we are. Reddit's been overflowing with hilarious object labeling memes featuring Tom Hanks bravely (and some may argue, stupidly) pointing his gun at the face of the tank. Like Captain Miller's bold attempt, this meme is all about unsurmountable odds - from childish disses to a swift "I have a boyfriend." We've combed the web for the best examples, but we're betting this one's gonna be blowing up for the next few days. We can't wait.
