Another week, another shitposting trend. Everyone's favorite Christmas tradition is now part of the latest fad. Starting last week, people on Twitter and Reddit have been creating memes with the text "You've heard of elf on the shelf, now get ready for" accompanied by an image of another rhyming situation. Nintendo characters have been especially popular: think photos like Link in a sink, Waluigi on a squeegee, Princess Peach on a beach. 

Because the format is so simple (and many would argue, stupid) these rhyming memes have spread like wildfire. Here are some of our favorites.

For Flashback Friday we're revisiting "This Is The Male Body" a Twitter meme that came onto the scene last summer. It all started when conservative media personality Steven Crowder posted a photo of MMA fighter Fedor Vladimirovich Emelianenko to Twitter back in January. The picture, which was captioned "This is the ideal make body. You might not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like."

It wasn't until months later, in August of 2016, that the tweet began receiving attention. After it was reposted by user @playazball in response to one of Crowder's misogynistic tweets, others users started to take notice and began making their own versions of the tweet, usually sans typo. Here are some top-rated examples.

On June 28th, 2017, Twitter user @makennamg tweeted a series of photos of herself cleaning up Donald Trump's Hollywood star. The tweet read "Stopped to clean @realDonaldTrump Hollywood Star. Nothing but respect for MY President. #RaisedRight." Shortly after posting the tweet, user @alexaagarciaa (now private) responded with her own photo - featuring both her middle fingers and Trump's star covered in stickers. 

Naturally, the fun didn't stop there. Since the original photos were tweeted, users have been responding with photos of themselves "cleaning" the stars of celebrities they consider to be their president - from Donald Duck to Charlie Sheen...and even Shrek. Whose star would YOU clean? 

Netflix's 13 Reasons Why has inspired yet another exploitable image meme. The four panel template features screen captures from show's first episode, in which Hannah Baker sees her crush, Justin, smile. In this meme, the area that would feature Justin smiling is replaced by another character - like Shrek, or the Joker.

In May 2015 photographer Shea Glover uploaded a video titled ""People react to being called beautiful" to Youtube. The video, which is exactly what it claims to be, has impressively gained over million views in two years. It wasn't until January 2016, when an image macro featuring screenshots of people and their reactions to the compliment, that people started meme-ifying the image. The meme has been going strong since its first exploitation (featuring Thom Yorke of Radiohead) - covering subjects from Pepe the Frog to Star Wars. These are our favorites.
