DC Says Superheroes 'Don't Do That,' Zack Snyder Disagrees

A superhero can partake in righteous violence and destruction, but according to DC Entertainment, pleasuring a lover is far too obscene. In a recent Variety Magazine article focusing on shows that subvert the superhero genre, Justin Halpern, co-creator and executive producer of the HBO animated series Harley Quinn, told Variety:

"In this third season of 'Harley' we had a moment where Batman was going down on Catwoman. And DC was like, 'You can't do that. You absolutely cannot do that.' They're like, 'Heroes don't do that.' So, we said, 'Are you saying heroes are just selfish lovers?' They were like, 'No, it's that we sell consumer toys for heroes. It's hard to sell a toy if Batman is also going down on someone.'"

'Heroes don't do that' eh? A number of Batman fans made the point that DC once went with a pretty graphic rooftop sex scene between Batman and Catwoman in an issue of their comic. Where was their concern about merchandise sales then? Many weighed in on the controversial question of whether or not Batman—ahem—goes down, including Zack Snyder, who tweeted an illustration of Batman and Catwoman in the throes of passion. He captioned the image with one word: 'canon.' Snyder's tweet sparked some spicy memes in the replies. Way to set the record straight, Zack.

Woman Leaves Husband In Grocery Store For Literally Acting Like A Toddler

We all get comfortable in relationships and say some cringe things in jest, but some people take it wayyy too far. A distraught woman asked Reddit if she was the asshole for leaving her husband in the grocery store after he quite literally acted like a toddler and demanded ice cream in a baby voice. OP u/smallslicedskin further explained that this wasn't an isolated incident. Apparently, her husband had been incessantly using meme-speak like 'doggo,' 'pupper,' 'chicky nuggies,' and 'birb' for months. The bizarre affectation that had been driving OP bonkers caused her to finally snap in the grocery store and subsequently turn to Reddit for help. Scroll down for her story and some of the best responses in the thread

15 'Nice Guys' Who Showed Their Toxic Entitlement

There's been a lot of talk about incels and 'nice guys' over the past few years, and for good reason. There really are dudes out there who fervently believe they're entitled to the affection of women just because they treat them with a modicum of kindness. Sadly, they don't realize that being benevolent in order to get what they want isn't actually "nice." It's manipulative. And when the manipulation doesn't work? They go off the rails and reveal their toxic and entitled truth. These specimens from r/niceguys truly encapsulate this mysoginistic and cringey mindset. We hope they get the help they so clearly need. Or at least a really good talking to.

Elders Of Cyberspace Reminisce About The Early Internet Days

Depending on the generation you belong to, the way you think about the internet might significantly differ from someone much older or younger than you. One (presumably young) redditor asked the 'elders' of Reddit to explain the meaning of slang from the early internet days of yore. Not only did veterans of the net get into archaic terminology, they reminisced about messenger platforms like AIM and ICQ, illegally downloading songs, emoticons, forums and funny chat room dynamics. You can't help but detect a tinge of wistfulness in each response, even when one redditor recounts the traumatic experience of seeing 'goatse' for the first time. Keep scrolling for some amusing highlights from the thread.

Weed Meme Hilariously Illustrates The Stages Of Smoking A Joint

Ever notice your mood or vibe change through the progression of one joint? You could start off thinking about what you're gonna cook for dinner and end up rapidly spewing random disconnected facts about Project MKUltra to your unassuming roommate. Well, now there's a meme for this exact experience. 4/20 is right around the corner and so we're featuring a funny new format that stoners and casual dabblers alike have been using to describe the stages of smoking a joint. We love this format because the meme can vary drastically depending on the personal experience of the memer. Each spin on the meme tells a funny little story about different kids of tokers—one person might get paranoid or political the more the joint progresses, while someone else might be vibing in the first quarter and running home by the end of the joint. We've included our favorite examples of the dank trending format and a few non weed-related memes inspired by the original for good measure.

23 Cringey Times People Overshared When No One Asked

The internet is full of overzealous posters who have absolutely no filter when it comes to sharing crude details about their personal lives with the world wide web. And when it comes to sex, many embellish the truth or obviously lie about their sex lives to seem badass to total strangers who couldn't care less. Many examples of these instances of unwarranted oversharing are well documented over at r/ihavesex. We've gathered some prime, wince-worthy screenshots from the subreddit if you're in the mood to cringe.

After getting cancelled in 2017 for several instances of sexual misconduct, comedian Louis C.K. made a statement confirming the allegations, expressed remorse for his misconduct, and then unsurprisingly laid low for a few years. Well, now Louis is back with a new special and he has released an excerpt from the show in which he nods to the cancellation without naming it outright. Rather than going into details about the incidents themselves, he briefly addresses the nuances of consent and then steers the focus on 'his thing,' meaning his sexual fetish. Was Louis C.K. using a bit about having a fetish to help maneuver himself out of the 'sexual harassment' narrative? Or is he brave for roasting himself about something humiliating? YouTube and Reddit comments suggest that the subject is still quite contentious.

Spotlight On Our Favorite Femme Memelords

It's the first week Women's History Month and we're celebrating meme-style by featuring some of our favorite femme memelords, starting with epic shitposter @the_biggest_mood_ever. If you're not familiar, scrolling through TBME's account feels like stepping into the psyche of a hilarious homie you never knew you had. The chaotic energy and spontaneity of her style of posting makes TBME an exciting follow—you never know if you're going to see something crass, wholesome, relatable, or absurd pop up in your feed. We just know it's a vibe, and that vibe is funny AF.

Not only are we including a bunch of her recent greatest hits, but we had the pleasure of asking TBME some questions about what it's like to be be an Instagram memelord with over 78k followers. Be sure to check out @the_biggest_mood_ever and give her a follow for the full experience.

Memebase: Tell us a little about yourself! How did you first start getting into posting memes?
@the_biggest_mood_ever: I'm the CEO of the biggest mood ever. I came up with the idea in 2019 when I realized that my old gardening account was not active and at the same time I had too many shitposts on my phone with nowhere to post them. That's how TBME was created. Easy.

What do you enjoy about shitposting?
Sharing the collective responsibility. The minute you see the images you become responsible for their existence!

What's a meme that makes you laugh every time you see it?
Definitely 'pass it to myself.' (Included in the gallery)

What's more interesting to you—cringe or based content?
I apply the principle of yin-yang to my cringe-based ratio.

You've got quite a lot of followers! What do you think attracts people to the memes you share?
I think that the memes that I share are easy to relate to, other than that I'm not really sure why people are following me. I love my followers though, they're the best :)

What have you learned about the meme world over the course of @the_biggest_mood_ever's existence?
It's not all fun and jokes.

Do you feel like your account has a theme, or do you post intuitively? How much do you think your own personality is reflected in the content you share?
I post very spontaneously and in one way or another I relate to the memes I post almost every time.

What is the biggest mood ever?
The biggest mood ever is yet to come :)

Twitter Has Meltdown Over The Lola Bunny Redesign

It's pretty easy to laugh at furries. The subculture's pervy fanaticism towards anthropomorphic animals can be a lot to take in. Recent movies such as Zootopia only seem to fan the flames of furry desire. Today, thanks to news of Space Jam: A New Legacy's redesign of the sultry Lola Rabbit, we're reminded that these creepy (and horny) tendencies were prevalent as early as 1996.

For those of you who were unaware, Lola Bunny, Bugs Bunny's love interest, is as curvy as she is good at basketball. The artists bestowed her with a pretty serious rack and child-birthing hips. These qualities alarmed the reboot's Director, Malcolm D. Lee, who told Entertainment Weekly that he wanted to wanted to update the look for a more modern and less sexualized appearance. "This is 2021," he said. "It's important to reflect the authenticity of strong, capable female characters."

While we can definitely see where he's coming from (we should not be feeling jealous of a rabbit's assets), the response on Twitter has been mostly negative. And revealing. Seems like there are a whole lot of horny and nostalgic people who really, really hate Lola's less-sexy look and apparent breast reduction. While we're feeling kind of creeped out by how passionate the people are, it's definitely a cause that is both cringey and hilarious. We've put together some of the best responses in this gallery, but we're pretty certain this will be talked about for a while. Frankly, we're surprised that some incel hasn't made a Change.org petition demanding a return to tradition.

Dumb People Who Have Zero Understanding Of Human Anatomy

The idea that 'pee is stored in the balls' is a pretty established internet joke, but imagine if someone actually believed that this was true. Well, there are way too many people online who either ask for advice that betrays their general lack of anatomical knowledge, or worse, they spout obviously wrong information all over the internet. In this gallery, we've got a bunch of prime examples of stupid people who don't know how the body works and the embarrassing dumbassery they post.

Twitter Erupts After Weeb Encourages Nerds To Gatekeep Anime

Once upon a time, Twitter used to be a simple place where people could keep tabs on each other by regularly posting short updates, kind of like that distant relative who briefs the extended family once a week with a family newsletter-style mass email, only much more succinct and digestible. Back in the day, you could only tweet 140 characters, so brevity was a skill one was required to hone if they wanted to use Twitter. At 9:50pm on March 21, 2006, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey sent the first tweet ever out into the digital world—'just setting up my twttr.' At first, the tweets that followed were just as mundane and innocuous, reflecting the humble vision for the fledgeling social network at the time. Some of the first tweets ever include, 'wishing I had another sammich' and 'having some flowery orange pekoe tea' and 'feeling pains in my back.' We've come a looooong way since those early Twitter days, to say the least. It's impossible to diagnose the exact turning point from harmless, uncomplicated Twitter to the toxic Twitter hellscape everyone loves to hate today, but increasing the character limit to 280 probably didn't hurt. What used to be a place for people to update followers about their lunch is now a place where millions are hungry to own their enemies with snide subtweets, sanctimonious hot takes, and disparaging jokes. If you're logging on to a social media account knowing you're about to see mostly cringe and negativity, it probably safe to call that space a toxic environment.

One common theme of contemporary toxic Twitter is gatekeeping. What is 'gatekeeping' exactly? It's basically when someone claims authority over enjoying or accessing a hobby, interest group, or identity based on fake rules. For example, 'If you don't know who this musician is, then you're not a real jazz fan.' Or you might be familiar with the popular meme that aptly mocks the gatekeeper: 'Oh, you like movies? Name all of them.' Recently, self-proclaimed King of Anime @BlackDGamer1 tweeted the ultimate pro-gatekeeping hot take that caused some discourse that was exemplary of what Twitter is like now. 'If all your common knowledge of anime, is Demon Slayer, Naruto, Inuyasha, Bleach, One Piece, Fate, Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, Gundam, My Hero Academia, Yu-Gi-Oh & Ghost in The Shell, then you're NOT an anime fan! Normies stay the f*ck out of Anime!' That's a whole lot of anime one could watch and still not qualify for the official 'Anime Fan' club card. Though some attempted to make a case for gatekeeping nerdom from the normies, most people argued that letting others enjoy things is fine and good. We've collected some tweets from the gatekeeping anime discourse to paint a picture of the toxicity of Twitter for you. Maybe some day we can return to tweeting about the simple mundanities of life. Or perhaps some kind of weekly Twitter holiday can be instated that prohibits negative vibes.

People Really Hate Rick Astley's 'Never Gonna Give You Up' 4k Remaster

There are very few memes as timeless as the "Rickroll." The meme, which involves Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up," is a classic prank. And today, the internet became shocked after seeing their beloved 1987 music video remastered in crisp and clean 4k. The remaster comes courtesy of Revideo, a YouTube account that remasters videos with AI for kicks. This is without a doubt their most viral effort. On Twitter, user @Ray_sho shared a clip of the spiffed up video, deeming it cursed. Though some viewers were appreciative of the makeover, many responses echoed their revulsion. We'll admit that there's a certain charm that's lost with all the fuzziness eliminated, but anything involving Mr. Astley is a joy in our books. Check out the difference between the videos (and enjoy some of the peanut gallery's responses) below.
