The Wario-baiting, Crypto-tanking Reactions To Elon Musk Hosting Saturday Night Live

If there is one thing Elon Musk wants everyone to know about him, it is that he's funny. When Saturday Night Live announced that he would host this weekend, it seemed like a logical step for the internet's most famous wannabe memelord.

However, not everybody saw it that way. The announcement was met with significant backlash, though many of his fans defended the Tesla CEO. Unfortunately, his appearance on the show only helped to encourage the critics who had been vocal in the upcoming weeks.

From the cringey swipes at Gen Z to his incorrect claim that he was the first person with Asperger's to host, viewers panned the show as soon as it aired. Even his Dogecoin shoutout didn't go as planned, with shares plummeting as soon as he joked about gifting some to his mom for Mother's Day. The cherry on top was a sketch involving a trial for the murder of Super Mario, with Musk playing Wario as the prime suspect.

The zany costuming and questionable acting skills set off a torrent of memes about the performance — and predictably, most of them weren't flattering.

Elon Musk's SNL Backlash Inspires Spicy Twitter Memes

Elon Musk can't seem to stay out of the spotlight. SNL announced on Saturday that the South African billionaire would be hosting the show on May 8th with musical guest Miley Cyrus. The news came in SNL's classic index card format - featuring the date, the name of the host, and the name of the musical guest.

It's true that weird nerds and Dogecoin enthusiasts may be celebrating the announcement, but there has actually been an impressive amount of backlash. While Dean Obeidallah penned an impressive op-ed decrying the choice, the most fervent and goofy protests have been in the form of memes.

Twitter Has A Lot To Say About Phoebe Bridgers' SNL Performance

Saturday Night Live is a polarizing show. There are the people who think the sketch-comedy show been unwatchable for years, and then there are the people who watch it religiously because, well, routines or something? Last night, indie rocker Phoebe Bridgers was the musical guest, and it seems her performance united both camps, because it's all that Twitter is talking about.

At the end of Bridgers' final performance, the musician smashed (or attempted to smash, depending on who you ask) her guitar. Guitar smashing is a long-running and classic rock move, one that performers such as Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, and Pete Townsend were quite skilled at. But judging by some of the confused reactions on Twitter, people have forgotten the longstanding albeit destructive tradition. Some of the takes suggest widespread boredom - because people are equating the smashing to white privilege. Other takes are spent defending Bridgers' actions. Phoebe herself had to explain that it was an inexpensive guitar, and she had obtained the blessing of its manufacturer. The best tweets, however, add some comedic flair to the weirdly controversial performance.

I mean, I didn't care much for the song either, but that seemed extra.

13 Kanye Memes That Might Take You To The Sunken Place

Our friend Kanye West is in the news more than ever right now. He performed his infamous new song "I Love it" on Saturday Night Live over the weekend with Lil Pump wearing a Perrier bottle costume, and wore a MAGA hat while giving a pro-Trump speech that didn't actually make it on air. Since then, people have been meme-ing Kanye to absolute heck.

The multi-talented Donald Glover hosted Saturday Night Live last night, and Star Wars fans will be happy to know that his Lando made an appearance as well. In the skit, the smooth-talking leader of Cloud City is holding a summit to honor all of the black humans in space. There's just one problem: he is one of just four. Glover's portrayal of the former smuggler is absolute perfection, leaving us even more stoked for Solo's late May release.

It's been 12 years since Natalie Portman's first nasty rap collaboration with The Lonely Island. Feel old yet? The actress returned to Saturday Night Live this past weekend and gifted us with this equally aggro sequel. There's even a shout out to Tide pods.

Twitter Reacts To SNL's Cringey Stereotype-Filled Aer Lingus Sketch

Saturday Night Live is catching some serious flack over Saturday's questionable sketch that brazenly mocked Irish culture. The segment, which was meant to poke fun at Irish airline Aer Lingus, was overflowing stereotypes that ranged from cheap (the in-flight menu consisted of only potatoes) to bizarre (dogs, everywhere).

Perplexed fans tweeted their distaste for both the skit and host Saoirse Ronan's impression of an Aer Lingus flight attendant - but the airline itself managed to steal the show. In retaliation, Aer Lingus penned a Donald Trump-esque tweet, calling the episode unwatchable and biased. Perhaps Saturday Night Live should think about refreshing their writer's room if they can't feature an Irish host without making jokes about potatoes.

Fans of Ken Bone should watch this if only to find out if he was right on who would play him on Saturday Night Live.

There's also this beautiful song, written entirely by Melania Trump (just like her RNC speech):

It finally happened.

One brave (or stumped) Jeopardy contestant got Alex Trebek to say "Turd Ferguson" during Sept. 16's final round.

This is one for the ages folks.

Of course, she got the idea from none other than Burt Reynolds and his mastery of comedic timing and poise.

"It's a funny name."
