"RIP But I'm Different" is a trending Twitter meme that started when Twitter user @stopitg tweeted that they would've been able to stop the Chernobyl disaster from happening, had they been there. Someone replied that his grandmother lived through it and was certainly NOT fine afterward, to which stopitg replied, "RIP to ur grandma but im different."
The exchange has inspired countless parodies from others joking that they too could've stopped various events from happening. We've picked out some of our favorites for you below!
It's always unfortunate when someone passes away, especially when they were well-known in the community. This guy named Tim clearly had an, um...unique life and we're pretty jealous of whoever was gifted the honor of writing his obituary. Tim, we didn't even know ya but we still got a laugh out of your life story, so thanks for that. RIP.
It's no secret that the internet really loves to hate on Buzzfeed. It's usually all fun and games, but recently a Buzzfeed headline appeared claiming that Stefan Karl Stefansson, who recently passed away from cancer, was actually the second best meme. This claim sent the Reddit community into an absolute frenzy, inspiring people to draft up a petition via Change.org to get Buzzfeed permanently deleted from the internet using the tag #DeleteBuzzfeed.
Of course, in the end the headline turned out to be fake, but that hasn't stopped the internet from attempting to totally destroy Buzzfeed with memes!
Wes Metcalfe posted a complaint on the wall of the Facebook page of British supermarket Tesco about finding a dead worm in a cucumber.
The complaint spiraled out of control and included Oasis covers, a funeral, and some of the best damn customer service in the history of the planet.
If Rob from Customer Care doesn't get a promotion/raise/bonus out of this, I will have officially lost all faith in humanity.
RIP William
It's hard to grasp that it's been a year since Nintendo President, Satoru Iwata passed away due to a bile duct tumor. Genyo Takeda ('Technology Fellow' at Nintendo) summed up how Iwata's journey was so far from over beautifully, in his eulogy:
“Please know, however, that the seeds you have planted, and the plants that have sprouted will put forth small flowers as they bring smiles to the faces of people around the world, blossom into a grand flower bigger than even you, our leader, Iwata-san,” Takeda shared. “Together with Miyamoto and others of our generation, we swear in our hearts that we will continue our efforts so that, someday, we can report and present to you the blossoming of these flowers. May you continuously watch over and guide us managers, our employees and your family.”
