Today, the Royal Family announced that the Duke of Edinburgh died peacefully in Windsor Castle at the age of 99. While it is a solemn day for loyal monarchists, Twitter looks pretty different for The Crown fans. One could go online right now and see jokes about The Crown spoilers before seeing the actual news about Prince Philip's death. 'Too soon' feels like an understatement in this case, but no one can argue that it's been a dramatic year for the Royals—it's easy to imagine writers of The Crown firing up those laptops. Poor Prince Philip. It feels like the ninety-nine year old Duke of Edinburgh has been the subject of a bit of well-meaning jokes about his appearance for much of the past year. The latest batch is inspired by a Daily Express tweet in which the publication claims

While he is looking quite chipper, many Twitter users were quick to point out that "several decades younger" might be a bit generous. And as mean as some of the tweets feel, they're actually extremely funny. We've put together our favorites for the enjoyment of morally ambiguous people such as ourselves. And we hope that Prince Philip feels as good as his smile is telling us - and that he and Queen Elizabeth are enjoying themselves while they can.

The Queen of England's other half found himself the subject of a meme following a brief hospital stay. Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, had been in the hospital for four days due to a "pre-existing condition." He was photographed en route to the Royal family's Christmas celebrations in Sandingham, and people were quick to notice the 98 year old's peakish and almost frightening appearance. But let's be real - Phil is looking pretty good for his age. That definitely didn't stop the memes. Memers expressed fear for the Duke's health, astonishment at his appearance, and used the images to make self-deprecating jokes. While we feel a bit guilty for supporting the internet's efforts at roasting an old man, the memes are pretty entertaining.
