YouTube's New Rewind Apologizes For Last Year But Still Misses The Mark

Remember last year's cringey YouTube Rewind? It's hard not to. The video was the most disliked video in the history of the website. This year, YouTube has decided to repent for their sins and play it safe - with a whole lot of numbers. Instead of getting creative, the new video is more of a montage of the most statistically "liked" videos, creators, and channels. It even features controversial creator PewDiePie

Though the new YouTube video is decidedly less controversial than 2018's, the viewer response has done nothing but prove that people will never be happy. Commenters are already decrying the site's move to stick to numbers, as well as its absence of memes and deceased YouTuber Etika. The general consensus is that it's a cop-out video reminiscent of the "Top Ten" videos that are so popular on YouTube. The videos dislikes already dwarf its likes. With responses like this, we have to wonder what they'll come up with next year.

People Hated 2018's Youtube Rewind And They Made A Ton Of Memes About it

The internet is collectively screeching at Youtube's arguably cringey release of this year's Youtube Rewind video. The video is supposed to showcase the most viral videos of the year, but many people felt that the most influential people (Stefan Karl Stefansson, PewDiePie) were left out. Many other people found the video to just be lame - a video that seemed to be catering more to the desires of their advertisers than viewers. This sentiment has led to a campaign to make 2018's rewind the site's most disliked video - and has obviously inspired a crapload of memes.

PewDiePie, is a Youtuber we all know for two things: making loud noises while playing video games and making insane amounts of money from the videos of that.

People on the internet love to hate him but you can't help but feel a little bad for him now that he's been evicted for making too much noise. The situation would be hilarious (if you're one of the haters) if it weren't for the real reason behind his eviction.

PewDiePie is looking to cash in even more on his YouTube video empire, and he's getting a little help from the creators of The Walking Dead.

He's getting a brand new show, and it sounds highly entertaining.

The new series will be featured on YouTube's subscription service, YouTube Red. The show is set to be called Scare PewDiePie, and will be a half-reality, half-prank show.

The Walking Dead creators and Maker Studios will team up to drop PewDiePie into real-life versions of some of the horrifying video game situations he encounters.

YouTube Red will be available Oct. 28 for $9.99 a month.

Other original shows on the service includes projects by the Fine Brothers and College Humor.

Whether you love him, hate him or have never heard of him, PewDiePie (Felix Kjellberg) leads the YouTube charts. His 38 million subscribers is a full 15 million more than the second place YouTuber and he boasts more than 9 billion (with a 'B') total views.

That's going to make the guy some money. Even if the vast majority of his videos revolve around playing video games and yelling in that way he does.

BBC reported July 7 that PewDiePie made $7 million in 2014. The story went around like things do and some vitriol was thrown his way like it does.

To his great credit, PewDiePie uploaded a video responding to some of the anger he received about the large paycheck. It's surprisingly frank, very respectful and ultimately charming.

From the beginning:

"I just feel like it's not important to anyone and I just want to make entertaining videos"

To the end:

"Conclusion, it seems like the whole world cares more about how much money I make than I do myself."

This new Internet economy is still not something understood or even accepted by a great many people. Especially when new public figures like PewDiePie inspire flame wars and derision. It's refreshing to have a blunt response about money come from one of the Internet's biggest stars.
