Video Killed The Radio Star Is Our New Favorite Low-Effort Meme

Shitposters made themselves busy this holiday weekend, presumably while avoiding high school friends and annoying family members. This new meme is a reference to the Buggles song "Video Killed The Radio Star" - a 1979 song that kickstarted the age of MTV. The meme, which is incredibly basic, labels a person the video and the other the radio star - implying the video's guilt. You see where this is going. Here are some of our favorites.

Funny memes, video killed the radio star memes.

Grunge rockers Nirvana show their distaste for following the rules in this hilarious recording from British music show 'Top of the Pops.' Apparently the show runners would force bands to perform live vocals over pre-recorded back tracks. The Seattle band predictably deemed this to be un-rock and roll, and, instead of backing out, trolled the entire performance of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" in their own goofy and irreverent way.

Collection of funny memes of Michael Cera photoshopped onto album covers, hip-hop, music, rap, rock, rock and roll, photoshop.

Yesterday, Seattle's famous indie record label received a heartfelt letter from a Virginia Tech student asking if Nirvana, the legendary grunge band that split up in 1994, would be willing to appear in a pep rally video to be shown during Homecoming Week, alongside several other recording artists like Ying Yang Twins, Slightly Stoopid and "three famous NFL stars." According to Sub Pop's Tumblr blog post, the staff members did their best to accommodate by dressing up like Nirvana and recording a response video to be released in coming days.
