Twitter Thread: How Dave Chappelle Taught A Comedy Crowd About The History Of Black People And Police

As anti-racism protests continue to be held around the United States following the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, many people are receiving some serious education in the area of race relations and the way police treat people of color. Given the climate, comic Kenny DeForest thought it was the right time to share this story from 2015. Dave Chappelle was a surprise guest at one of DeForest's shows at the Knit in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and the crowd (who may have been hoping for a standard set) received a sobering and eye-opening story about the history of black people and police in the US. By the end, even people who initially made light of his tale were humbled and grateful for the experience. It feels very relevant right now, and is a testament to the fact that it is possible to change minds.

Doctor's Twitter Thread Debunks Common Coronavirus Myths

We're all being inundated with information - and misinformation - regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. Sometimes all the statistics and warnings can feel overwhelming. Dr. Faheem Younus took to Twitter yesterday in an attempt to clear some of these things up. In a Twitter thread, the Maryland-based doctor tackles common myths about the virus, from the claim that Ibuprofen and other anti-inflammatories worsen the symptoms, to concerns about whether or not people can go jogging during this trying time. While some of these seem like common knowledge to some people, it's important that we all stay informed and act responsibly. It's going to be a long few months, and a little bit of education goes a long way.

Doctor's Twitter Thread Brilliantly Destigmatizes Waking Up Late

This Twitter thread may seem like common knowledge to some people, but society seems to disagree. Bostonite and sleep specialist Dr. Syed Moin Hassan took to the website to challenge the notion that night owls and late-risers are lazy bums that don't contribute to society. And judging by the response - and 25 thousand retweets, it was seriously appreciated.

Dr. Hassan explained that his frustrated patients who are late risers felt immense relief when educated on the topic of circadian rhythms, which regulate a person's sleep cycle, and dictate their comfort at any given hour of the day. If your circadian rhythm is "off," the average 9-5 schedule might not be sustainable. To battle this issue, you can try to align your rhythm with your social life via melatonin and light, or you can simply try to coordinate your social life with your irregular sleep cycle.

The response to the thread has been overwhelmingly positive. People who are more productive at later hours feel vindicated, and people who thought they merely had insomnia feel enlightened. We're just hoping our bosses will get on board, too.

Tumblr Thread Reveals True Meaning & Full Versions Of Classic Proverbs

I can't remember the first time I was told that "curiosity killed the cat" but it was probably by my mother. The petite neurotic woman was convinced that at any moment something terrible was about to happen to one of her brood. While it's been many years since I realized the adage was antithetical to a rich and full life, it wasn't until this Tumblr thread that I realized there was more to the proverb. As it turns out, the phrase is not meant to ward off healthy curiosity. The thread doesn't stop the splainin' there, either. We've never felt more sure of ourselves regarding the use of tired proverbs. Knowledge truly is power.
